SUMMARY

The Cordillera de Sal is a mountain range made of salt, pushed upright by the Andes and cut into ridges and canyons where nothing grows and nothing drinks. This is the ground people use when they need somewhere on Earth that behaves like another planet. We photograph it under a Bortle 2 sky, 45 minutes from San Pedro — and if you stand still after sunset, you will hear it: as the temperature falls, the salt contracts and the whole landscape cracks around you.

This is the most accessible expedition in the series. Almost no altitude, a short -medium drive, and solid ground underfoot — which makes it the one we recommend for a first night of landscape photography. Tell us who is coming and what you want from the night, and we will plan it around that.

WHAT WE BRING

A professional guide and a driver who knows these canyons in the dark. A professional photographer, with a briefing beforehand to plan every detail of the excursion. Cameras, tripods and lenses if they are needed. Hot food and drinks. Warm layers, chairs and blankets. Red headlamps for everyone.

If you have never photographed at night, we will set the camera up with you, explain what every setting is doing and why, and stay beside you until you are working on your own. Nobody here will make you feel slow. Most of our guests take their first real night photograph on an expedition like this one.

If you shoot professionally, this is the site where distance works in your favour: ridges, canyon walls and open salt flats sit within minutes of each other, so a single night can hold three completely different compositions. We give you the site, the hour, the moon and the sky reading, and then leave you to work.
